What is OCD?

OCD is a mental illness in which a person experiences intrusive, disturbing thoughts (obsessions) and is forced to perform repetitive actions (compulsions) to reduce the associated anxiety.

For example, a person with an obsessive fear of infections has a compulsive need to constantly wash their hands.

When does OCD occur?

  • It affects both men and women about the same.

  • It often begins in childhood, adolescence, or early adulthood.

  • One third of adults develop symptoms in childhood.

  • Research shows that OCD can run in families.

How does OCD manifest and develop?

The course of the disease is individual:

  • Symptoms may come and go from time to time.

  • Sometimes there is a gradual decrease in symptoms.

  • In severe cases, the disorder significantly impairs the quality of life, making it difficult to live:

    • work,

    • performing daily tasks,

    • social interaction.

Treatment of OCD

Traditional approaches:

  • Psychotherapy - in particular, cognitive-behavioral therapy.

  • Antidepressants - sometimes used as an additional method.

However, as with many other mental illnesses, some patients do not respond to standard treatment.

Ketamine is a new direction in the treatment of OCD

At the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Carolyn Rodriguez (Associate Professor at Columbia University, New York) presented research showing that ketamine can rapidly reduce OCD symptoms.

"What excites me most about ketamine is that it works differently than traditional antidepressants," Rodriguez says.
"We hope that using ketamine will help us better understand the neurobiology of the disease and develop safe, fast-acting treatments. I consider this my mission as a physician and researcher."

Integrative approach of the Expio Center

At our Center, we use a combination of modern science and a holistic approach to mental health, which allows us to achieve a deeper and more lasting effect.

Our OCD treatment program includes:

This multimodal approach helps patients regain control of their lives and feel free from the disease again.

Guided by the principles of integrative, holistic medicine, combining psychotherapy with ketamine infusions, transcranial electrical stimulation (TES), brain rehabilitation "Neurohelp"and body-oriented therapy, we achieve greater treatment effectiveness, which gives patients the opportunity to regain control over their lives.
